Stewardship Moments: Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Martha and Mary are the focus of this weekend’s Gospel, which abounds with rich themes about hospitality, service, and finding the right balance between action and prayerful attention to the Lord. Christians who are good stewards of their faith life realize that if they are too busy to enjoy peaceful, private time with the Lord, then something is out of balance in their spiritual lives. If we make time for Mass, but then carry on with our busy schedules without prayer, meditation and reflection, we are missing out. If we find ourselves anxious and harried by life’s routines, could it be a sign that something in our spiritual life needs some serious attention?

 

A Prayer for Mothers

All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for  mothers young and old.

We pray for young mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy.

We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; May they continue to guide in strong and gentle ways.

We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes every tear away.

We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion.

We remember mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen.

Jesus is the light of God who has entered into the darkness of the world. God is light: in Him there is no opacity; in us, on the other hand, there is much darkness. Now, with Jesus, light and darkness meet: holiness and sin, grace and sin. The Gospel uses these polarities to announce God’s “splendid” way of acting. When God is confronted with our frailties, He does not pull back and retreat into His eternal, infinite light. Rather, God descends into darkness, and dwells in lands that are foreign to Him. This is God’s work: to come among us. If we consider ourselves unworthy, that does not stop Him. If we reject Him, He does not tire of seeking us out. If we are not ready and willing to receive Him, He prefers to come anyway. We often keep our distance from God because we doubt our worthiness. Stewardship Moments: Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

After healing the blind man in today’s Gospel Jesus told him to go, to be on his way. But the man chose to follow Jesus. Being a disciple of Jesus is a choice. The stewardship way of life likewise involves a choice, in fact many choices. We choose to be grateful, we choose to live generously, and we choose to trust that God will always provide for our needs. These are three choices central to the stewardship way of life. What choices will we make this week that give witness to our decision to follow Jesus Christ?

 

Rekindling the Embers, 10/30/2021 10:30 AM

All St Malachi members are invited to this Day of Prayer and Sharing on Saturday, October 30th starting at 10:30AM and ending with 4 PM Mass. Our focus will be on Rekindling the Embers by finding hope, healing, and new energy.

Come pray, share stories, feast and be refreshed.
