Ursuline Sisters: Serving St. Malachi for 150 Years!
The Ursuline Sisters started teaching at St. Malachi in 1869 (only the girls!). In 1893, when the Christian Brothers left, they were granted permission to teach boys. However, St. Malachi maintained 2 separate schools (boys and girls) until about 1916, when the schools were combined into our current building. In 1968, St. Patrick and St. Malachi Schools merged to become Urban Community School. In 2005, Urban Community School moved to its new location continuing under the direction of the Ursuline Sisters. Thank you Sisters!
Bring Your Old Palms and Nail Crosses to Church!
The holy season of Lent is nearly upon us. If you find any palms from last year or nail crosses that you’ve been forgetting to return, it’s time to recycle! Containers will be at the church doors for the palms; take the nail crosses directly into the sacristy before or after Mass.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 1/18-1/25/2019
January 18-25, 2019 is the annual observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The theme for 2019 is “Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue” (Deuter- onomy 16:18-20) and was prepared by churches in Indonesia. In a world marked by diversity in language and culture, we express our Christian faith in diverse ways. During this week we are called to celebrate this diversity and be faithful to Christ’s call for the unity of his Church. All are invited to join with brothers and sisters in prayer, song, and witness to unity as followers of Christ.
Stewardship Moment: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 1/20/2019
In today’s second reading, Saint Paul makes a list of gifts dispensed to members of the Christian community by the Holy Spirit. Each gift bestowed has a specific purpose for the person for whom it is intended: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, mighty deeds, prophecy, discernment, tongues, & interpretation. Good stewards know these gifts are not meant to be kept hidden by the recipient but to be shared with the community and beyond. As we begin a new year, let us reflect on the gift the Holy Spirit has given to each of us. Do we recognize this gift? How was it intended that we use this gift? Are we being good stewards of this gift?
