Note to Parishioners on the Synodal Process
Dear Parishioners,
As you know, the Universal Church is embarking on preparation for a Synod on Synodality, called by Pope Francis. Fr. Gurnick has asked me to direct the process at St Malachi and St Patrick Parishes, as outlined by our Diocese, with the assistance of Christy Bartley, Communications Coordinator at St Patrick. I have received materials from the Diocese and will be completing Facilitator Training soon. In order that input is relatable among all Cleveland parishes, the Bishop wants all of us to use the same process for prayer and listening. As soon as I study the process we are asked to follow, I will, with Christy’s help, communicate with everyone regarding the listening sessions at both St Malachi and St Patrick Parishes. In the meantime, let us pray that the Holy Spirit grace this time with faith, hope, and charity. I will continue to be in touch with everyone as I have details to offer.
God’s blessings on all of us, the People of God!

Speed Bumps at Washington Street Entrance, November 2021
Speed bumps were install at the Washington Street entrance of our parking lot to discourage cars from racing through the lot to get to Vermont Ave. There have been several near misses of cars being damaged by the incoming traffic. It may not stop the cars but it should slow them down. The speed bumps will be painted yellow in the next week or so.
Pope Francis Quote for 11/13-14-2021
Christian freedom does not enter into conflict with other cultures or with the traditions we have received, but rather introduces a new freedom, a liberating new message, that of the Gospel. Christians, freed from the slavery of sin and death by the passion and resurrection of Jesus, are able to welcome every people and culture, and in turn introduce other peoples and cultures to even greater freedom…True Christian freedom enables us to acquire the full dignity of children of God, allowing us to remain anchored in our own cultural heritage while being open to what is good and true in every culture. Excerpts from the General Audience, Oct. 13, 2021

Sharon Lowe-Chapman reviewed the recent Malachi Run and hopes, despite the decrease in runners & sponsorship, to break even. There are already 170 runners registered for next year’s event on 3/12/22. For logo purposes, research is needed to verify it as the “44thRun.”

Discussion: All agreed to talk/encourage parishioners to attend the Volunteer Luncheon at the Music Box on 10/9/21.
Plans are unfolding for the ministry retreat, “Rekindling the Embers,” on 10/30/21. As this is an all-parish event, a separate meeting for ministry chairs to discuss role priorities to decrease overlap, will be considered for spring, 2022. All supported pre-choosing of tasks for council meetings. As future building and/or remodeling projects are being named/dedicated for specific donations, Margaret Armstead, suggested Jimmy Bivins, a boxer who trained for many years in the Old Angle Gym on the 3rd floor of the school. Others to consider for naming included: Fr. Hritz, Sr. Frances and Miss Michele. Future speakers for council meetings: Judy Hilow, Director of Malachi House, on 11/2/21; Shauna Sanders, Director of Malachi Center on January 4, 2022. In response to concerns of the Hospitality Committee about food at indoor events—the medical safety standards of the Diocese of Cleveland must be followed.

Respectfully submitted,
Judy Stowe, Secretary
Names of Women and Men in Religious Formation Programs
Our Diocesan Vocation Office is requesting that each parish submit the name of any woman or man who is currently in a formation program for Consecrated Life (a Religious Community) for the annual Vocations Poster. If you know of someone from our parish who is actively in a formation program, please provide the following information: His/her full name, position or level of formation (eg. Novice), Community Name (eg. Marianists), Community Initials (SM), and a phone number (only to be used by the Vocation Office if needing to make contact with the individual). A picture would be helpful and should be a head and shoulder photo, facing forward and being well lit.
Looking for Your Input!
As we determine the schedule for our Christmas liturgies we’d like to hear from everyone regarding the times for our vigil Masses. To give us a good idea, forms will be available at the church entrances this weekend and next weekend. Please fill out the form and return it to the rectory, sacristy, or drop it off in next week’s offertory. While this is not an election, your input will assist us in finalizing the schedule.
