Message from Fr. Gurnick, 01/13/2024
Dear Friends and Parishioners of Saint Malachi,
In an effort to make sure parishioners received the good news of Fr. Schuerger being granted the return of his priestly faculties before learning of this from other sources, we forwarded the official statement from the Diocese of Cleveland via email and in last Sunday’s bulletin. As the email stated, this was our attempt to make sure that the many who have been praying for Fr. Tony would receive this news in a timely fashion. If you have not already received this information, please look for copies of the diocesan statement at the doors of the church this weekend. After a thorough investigation conducted by civil authorities and the Diocesan Review Board, Fr. Tony is granted the use of his priestly faculties and awaits a new assignment. My hope is that, once Father receives his new assignment, we will be able to have a proper sending forth with a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by a social event. Of course, this will be dictated by Fr. Tony’s wishes when that time comes. Please continue to keep Father Schuerger in your prayers. I know he is most grateful for your continued love and support.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Michael Gurnick
Beware of Texts Coming from Fr. Gurnick
Parishioners have called advising us that they are receiving TEXTS from Fr. Gurnick requesting assistance and money. These are scams along with emails you may have received in the past. Please delete them. Fr. Gurnick would never send emails or TEXTS requesting money or assistance. If you have any concerns, please call the rectory.
Pope Francis Quote, 01/14/2024
The Pope’s prayer intention for the month of January is for Christian Unity which is celebrated from January 18-25. Pope Francis urged Christians to unite our prayers to his “for the gift of diversity in the Church …….. If we are guided by the Holy Spirit, abundance, variety, and diversity never cause conflict. The Holy Spirit reminds us first and foremost that we are children loved by God – everyone equal in God’s love, and everyone different.”
Confirmation Preparation has Begun
Preparation of our youth for Confirmation has begun.

Faithful Legacy
How lightly Mary held Jesus. She did not clutch Him to her but held Him out for the world to know. She knew that He did not belong to her alone. From the moment of His birth she was called upon to share Him with strangers who flocked to see Him. In the same way, we are also called to hold our blessings lightly, being willing to share what God has given to us with those whom God may lead to us. As this New Year begins, let us make passing on our Catholic heritage our first resolution. A planned gift to our parish makes you an eternal steward of our Church. To begin planning for your legacy, you may contact Fr. Gurnick at the parish office or Mary Lou Ozimek of the Catholic Community Foundation at (216) 696-6525 x4070 or mozimek@catholiccommunity.org for a confidential conversation.
Pope Francis Quote, 01/07/24
“Christians have the duty to proclaim the Gospel without excluding anyone… Each person who is called on by the Lord is chosen so that they may reach others. That is the “pact” that has been made… Being called by God is not about elevating oneself but rather about becoming free and courageous instruments of inclusive love.”
