Our Lenten Effort: Holy Land Christians
This year, we support Christians in the Holy Land, the “living stones” whose population has fallen to less than 2% in the place where Christianity began. Today, only one Catholic school, Holy Family School, remains in Gaza. The Cleveland Holy Land Consortium supports this school. Our Bishop Nelson has encouraged a local effort to stand with the Christians of Gaza at Holy Family School and Parish. Help support families whose communities are largely cut off from the rest of the world. The need is urgent! Offering envelopes are available at the doors of the church for you to use to turn your personal Lenten sacrifices into contributions which will help Catholic children in Gaza make their way to a brighter day. Return Offerings on HOLY THURSDAY or EASTER SUNDAY. For more information contact: Sir Jeffery Abood, jabood@att.net 330-612-7968.
St. Malachi Church Run-Thank You!
A special “thank you” to the many people at St. Malachi who helped make this year’s St. Malachi Church Run a great event last Saturday! A special thank you to the runners, sponsors, music and liturgical ministers who assisted at morning Mass and the host of volunteers who provided hospitality to thousands of participants, family members and friends who came out for this annual event. Thank you!
Parish Council Representatives met with Fr. Daniel Schlegel
On March 9, Parish Council members met with Fr. Daniel Schlegel, Vicar for Clergy and Religious in the Diocese of Cleveland to discuss concerns of the parish. St. Malachi parish remains a very important parish in the Cleveland diocese, a welcoming place on the near westside serving the marginalized by providing basic needs: clothes, food, shelter, love and hope. With the ongoing support of parishioners, volunteers and donors the mission will continue. During these last four months we have been made to see the parish through a different lens. The question of diocesan transparency was discussed; Fr. Schlegel explained the process the diocese has regarding a Leave of Absence, established to protect the privacy of the clergy. Fr. Schlegel welcomed Parish Council members to offer their suggestions as to how handle this process more effectively, and with greater respect for the parish family. We the people of St. Malachi must continue to pray for Fr. Tony, both in our private prayer and in our prayer together as the people of St. Malachi Parish.
