Stewardship Moments: First Sunday of Lent
Today’s Gospel takes us into the wilderness with Jesus. To be authentic stewards we must face our own demons. We must acknowledge that we need to rely on others, facing the demon of individualism. Individualism isolates us from other races, genders, nations and classes. We must also encounter the demon of power that tempts us to be in control of all situations. As followers of Jesus we must struggle with pride. We work to put aside thoughts and words that elevate the self over others, looking for adulation for our perceived goodness. Lent is a time to rely on God’s grace to help us to deal with those demons that keep us from being authentic stewards.
Pope Francis Quote For February 29 to March 1, 2020
Are there moments when you place yourself in the Lord’s presence, when you calmly spend time with him, when you bask in his gaze? Unless you let him warm you more and more with his love and tenderness, you will not catch fire. How then will you be able to set the hearts of others on fire by your words and witness? Praying with the Jesuits, Finding God in All Things, 2019

The Nail Cross: A St. Malachi Tradition
This weekend we celebrate the First Sunday of Lent with a procession to the cross, asking our brothers & sisters, the saints, to intercede for us and be with us on our Lenten journey. We take a nail from the cross and keep it with us as we pray, fast, serve others and learn to follow Christ more fully. This practice reminds us that our own sufferings are one with His as we return the nail on Good Friday, uniting ourselves to the redeeming cross. The greeters will have nail prayer cards at the doors of the church for your use.
