RCIA -- COME & SEE!
Do you know someone who is not Catholic but has expressed interest in the faith? Do you know someone who was baptized Catholic but never raised in the church? Do you know someone who is searching spiritually, but has no church home? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey of faith for adults interested in the Catholic faith. The first RCIA session will be at 7 PM on Monday, September 15, at St. Patrick Church (Bridge Ave). For information, call the rectory (216) 861-5343.

PRAYING WITH ST. IGNATIUS
Praying with St. Ignatius, a Parish Retreat of the Jesuit Retreat House starts Sunday, September 28 at St. Malachi hall from 7:00-8:30 pm. The Praying with St. Ignatius retreat is adapted from The Spiritual Exercises to foster a heartfelt knowledge of Jesus. For 8 Sundays, trained spiritual directors from the Jesuit Retreat House will guide you through different methods of prayer, meditation, journaling, and small group sharing. Participants are asked to commit a ½ hour a day for private prayer. Is God calling you to a closer relationship? The cost is $50; registration deadline is Tuesday September 23. Flyers are at the doors of the church. St. Malachi Spiritual Development Committee sponsors this retreat. Please contact Jan Leitch or Jackie Bluett for more information. 

CALLED AND GIFTED” - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
In an effort to help us see how we are “Called and Gifted” during this clustering process, we look to those who have struggled through similar situations for ideas and guidance. Sr. Mary Schrader CSJ begins the series on Wednesday, September 24 by sharing her personal & communal experience in the merging of 7 Communities of the Congregation of St. Joseph Sisters. Her talk, A Second Chance, will begin about 7:15 pm in St. Malachi Hall, allowing us to pray the Labyrinth (at 6 pm). This is a St. Malachi Spiritual Development Committee event. MALACHI HOUSE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE

 FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP; A CALL TO POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY” -- SAVE THE DATE
How does a committed Catholic apply the social justice teachings of our faith to deciding how to vote? To help, the Community Social Action Committee will host “Faithful Citizenship; a call to Political Responsibility” Wednesday, October 15, from 7--8:30 PM in the School Hall.

SAMARITAN MINISTRY
The fall Samaritan Ministry Workshop of St. Malachi Church on alcoholism and addiction will be held at St. Malachi Center from 6-8:30 pm on the four Thursdays of October (2-23) During each FREE session, a speaker will discuss relevant topics including:

  • Addiction as a brain disease
  • Effects of drinking/using on others
  • Treatment and assessment tools
  • 12 step programs of recovery
  • Resources in the community

ST. MALACHI CENTER'S ANNIVERSARY RAFFLE
The August winners of the St. Malachi Center drawing are: Mary Jane Colleran, $250; Paul Lumsden, $150; Katie Schuerger, $100. The next drawing is Tuesday, September 30, after Noon Mass. Tickets are only $12/each or three for $30! Buy your ticket at the back of Church or at Coffee Hour to have a chance in this month's drawing! Winning tickets go back into the “hopper” to be eligible to win the other monthly and the grand or runner-up prize. The grand prize is $5000 and the runner-up prize is $1000. The drawings for these prizes are in November.

URBAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL FALL BENEFIT
Follow the Leader is the theme of the Urban Community School benefit as it celebrates its 40th Anniversary on Saturday, September 27, from 6-11 PM at the school, 4801 Lorain. It will be an elegant evening of fine food including dinner by Doug Katz of Fire, live and silent auctions and much more! VOTING BY REGISTERED MAIL
All registered voters (active and inactive) were mailed a Vote by Mail ballot application this week to apply to vote this way for the November 4 Election. Vote by Mail helps voters who have transportation issues, health problems, or work long/unusual hours. FAMILY DAY - SEPTEMBER 22 
Monday, September 22 is Family Day! All families are encouraged to eat dinner as a family. Family meals are the perfect time to talk with children and to listen to what's on their mind. The more often children eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs. Through shared prayer (grace) and conversation, parents the can help continually feed their child's mind, body and soul. PEACE AND JUSTICE SERIES
The Sisters of the Humility of Mary invite you to the next session of a Peace and Justice Series, Incarcerated Women: the Invisible Church on Tuesday, September 9, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the HM Ministry Center, 20015 Detroit Rd. Rocky River. Sr. Bev LoGrasso OSU, community activist in social justice issues will speak on ministering to women in prison 

ST. MALACHI REVERSE RAFFLE
Tickets are available for the annual St. Malachi Reverse Raffle on Friday, October 3 at Brennan's Party Center. Tickets are $100 for dinner for two & a chance for the main board prize of $3,000.
